The Second Look

Already have a CPA? Let us check the plans.

Bring last year’s returns, your entity chart and your most recent financials. A senior member of our team reviews them the way a second engineer checks a set of drawings, and tells you plainly what we see: planning opportunities left on the table, entities that no longer fit, books that are not ready to plan from. We’ll quickly confirm whether we are the right fit.

  • Your tax bill is a surprise every spring
  • You own several properties or entities and nobody looks at them together
  • Your books close weeks late, if at all
  • Your lender is asking for statements you cannot produce quickly

Our services, built to work together

Four disciplines on one set of drawings.

Most firms focus on transactions and deadlines. Here, accounting is the foundation, tax is proactive, advisory is practical and assurance is disciplined. That integration is intentional, and it’s why clients see fewer surprises and better control.

  1. 01 · The foundation

    Accounting & Bookkeeping

Clean, reconciled books every month, so tax planning and advice rest on numbers you can trust.

    • Monthly bookkeeping in QuickBooks / Xero
    • Month-end close & reporting
    • Cleanup / catch-up bookkeeping
    • Payroll administration
    • Bill pay management (AP discipline)
    • Book depreciation schedules
    • Annual accounting (Schedule C / Schedule E)
    • Systems & app management (QBO/Xero)
  2. 02 · Proactive planning

    Tax

Planning comes first, then filing. Year-round strategy that is coordinated with your books and your decisions.

    • Tax planning & projections (year-round strategy)
    • Business returns (1065 / 1120S / 1120)
    • Individual returns (1040)
    • Estate & trust returns (1041) and gift tax (709)
    • Foreign compliance (5471, FBAR, disclosures)
    • Tax resolution & representation (POA, audits)
    • Payroll tax filings (941/940)
    • Nonprofit (990) and excise (720) returns
  3. 03 · Practical decisions

    CFO / Advisory

Decisions, not dashboards. Cash flow timing, project and asset profitability, and the trade-offs before they are locked in.

    • CFO services (cash flow forecasting, budgeting)
    • KPI / scorecard build
    • Board / bank package build (lender-ready)
    • Growth & capital advisory
    • Due diligence support (buy/sell readiness)
    • Value maximizer advisory (profit improvement)
    • Financial systems optimization
    • Technology and systems advisory
  4. 04 · Disciplined rigor

    Assurance / Attest

Audit, review and compilation engagements run with a clear scope, organized requests and lender-ready output.

    • Audit of financial statements
    • Review of financial statements
    • Compilations & personal financial statements
    • Agreed-upon procedures (AUP)
    • Employee benefit plan audits (EBP)
    • Lender / investor-ready reporting support
    • Pre-audit support for other firms

Who does Dohan CPA typically work with?

Real estate and construction-related businesses: brokers, agents, investors, lessors, builders, contractors, architects, engineers, lenders and equipment-based businesses, along with growth-oriented businesses and high-income entrepreneurs. If your business involves projects, properties, assets or multiple entities, we are likely a fit.

Do you only provide tax services?

No. Tax is one part of what we do. We integrate accounting, tax, advisory and assurance so you have clean financials, proactive planning and clear decision support, not siloed work.

Do you do tax planning or just prepare returns?

Both, but planning comes first. Our tax work is proactive and coordinated with accounting and advisory, so there are fewer surprises and better cash-flow decisions.

Can you clean up messy or overdue books?

Yes. We regularly handle cleanup and catch-up bookkeeping. Once things are stable, we put a monthly close in place so the problem does not come back.

Will I work directly with senior professionals?

Yes. Each service area is led by a senior professional. Clients are not handed off without oversight, and leadership is directly accountable for quality and execution.

Do you work with small businesses or only large companies?

We work with owner-led businesses and growing companies. Complexity matters more than size: multi-entity structures, projects, assets and cash-flow timing are usually the deciding factors.

What accounting software do you use?

Primarily QuickBooks Online and Xero, along with supporting payroll and bill-pay platforms. We make sure systems are set up and used correctly.
